Mr. K.S. Rakshit was graduated in Science and Civil Engineering in 1947 and 1951 respectively  both from the University of Kolkata. He is a retired Chief Engineer of Pubic Works Department of the Government of West Bengal, India. He was associated with the planning, design and construction of highways and highway bridges, including restoration and rehabilitation works.


  • He is a Life Member of the Indian Roads Congress and a Life Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India).
  • He acted as a member of the Bridge Specification and Standards Committee as well as various other Committees of the Indian Roads Congress in connection with the preparation of Standard Specifications and Code of Practice for Road Bridges. 
  • He was also a member of few code making Committees of the Bureau of Indian Standards. Due to his expert knowledge in bridge and structural engineering. 
  • Mr. Rakshit was appointed both by the Ministry of Surface Transport (Roads Wing), Government of India as well as by the Government of West Bengal as a member of several Technical Committees to investigate into the causes of failure of some bridges and other structures. 
  • Mr. Rakshit devoted considerable time in studying practical problems and published as many as forty articles and papers in various Technical Journals dealing with theoretical and practical aspects of highways, highway bridges and other structures. 
  • His article on “Load Distribution in Bridge Decks – A Simplified Method” based on Morice & Little’s load distribution theory which appeared in The Indian Concrete Journal (published from Mumbai) was appreciated and is used by the bridge engineers.
